“I think the only thing that will improve the lives of south west Londoners is people in south west London taking control and ownership of their own lives and their own health.
“And I think we in the ICS, the NHS and local government are here to support people to make the decisions that are in their best interests. Now we can make it easier for them, we can provide them with easy access to care, a focus on public health intervention measures which will keep us healthy. Particularly thinking about how we will use our electronic health records, things like the NHS app.
“So in order for those of us who are residents and citizens of south west London, I think that we need to feel that we are in control of our own lives and our own healthcare.
“And I think one of the key things that the ICS is going to try and do is empower people to be in control of their own lives and feel that they have some decision making rights which perhaps hasn’t happened so much in the past as the NHS has been very good at looking after people but not necessarily supporting people so that they can look after themselves which is, I think, what most people want.”
