Fusebox is a space for Kingston’s young people to explore their creativity and reach their own potential. Creative Youth is a charity which seeks to create futures in the arts, including the delivery of mindful arts sessions where young people explore the importance of maintaining good mental health.
Archie O’Neill from Creative Youth said: “The sessions have been a great opportunity which has enabled us to build a good relationship with several young people who come regularly, with other drop ins floating in and out of the sessions. It has been amazing to run a service which genuinely benefits the young people we work with and even receives referrals from teachers, Mind’s youth services and CAMHS.”

Over 200 people came to the opening of the new space. They included representatives from Kingston Council, local community workers and a panel of Young Creatives. HRH unveiled a plaque at the site to mark the official launch.
Creative Youth was awarded £500 as part of the South West London Integrated Care Board’s Winter Engagement fund last year and delivered, in collaboration with Richmond Mind, art sessions for vulnerable young people (aged 12 to 25) which prompted the development of the mindful art sessions. Workshops have included lino printing, photography, crochet, painting, ceramic and 3D design.
One young person who attends the sessions said: “The Mindful Art Sessions are exactly what I need to make my day colourful and cheerful. I take away shared feelings of connection, community, creativity and great art to bring home.”
If you are, or know of, a young person aged 12 to 25 who would like to use art to express themselves and support their wellbeing, please see the link below for more information. A ‘Mindful Art Exhibition’ is planned for later this year and will display work made within the sessions.
