The MyCare Online Patient Access Survey, finalised in June 2023 by Healthwatch Croydon, evaluates patient experiences with the MyCare portal, a digital tool launched in September 2022 by Croydon Health Services NHS Trust for accessing hospital records, appointments, and test results.
Conducted over eight days with 230 outpatients from Trauma and Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Cardiology, and Main Outpatients at Croydon University Hospital, the survey reveals that only 27% (63 patients) were aware of MyCare, with awareness higher among younger patients. Of those aware, 57% (36) signed up, finding it easy. Barriers to using the portal include lack of devices (12%), disinterest (15%), and low digital confidence (9%).
Patients value convenience and access to records but cite issues like privacy concerns. Recommendations include boosting awareness via social media, providing user-friendly guides, and rigorous testing to enhance functionality. The Trust, having invited 75,000 patients with a 52% adoption rate, plans to integrate MyCare with the NHS App and address feedback to improve digital inclusion while maintaining non-digital care options.
