Between 15 November 2023 and 10 January 2024, Healthwatch Kingston upon Thames conducted an independent evaluation of the Integrated Community Rehabilitation Service (ICRS), an innovative pilot providing nine month’s intensive rehabilitation in the community for people with complex mental health needs. This report contains the evaluation and recommendations of the research, which was commissioned by the South London Mental Health and Community Partnership (SLP), Complex Care Programme.
The HWK evaluation assessed how the service was delivering against its key objectives six months after the service launched. The team interviewed eight clients, including one former client as well as 13 staff.
The report found that overall the ICRS/Bridge 24 service is a safe and supportive place for people with complex mental health needs. Most clients felt their mental health has improved, and they are more independent. They received help with daily skills, medication, and physical health.
Key issues include the need for better involvement from care coordinators, clearer plans for clients’ next steps, and improving access to dental care. Some clients feel anxious about moving on, and more support is needed to help them with this transition.
Overall, clients feel safe and supported, but the service could improve planning and communication about their future.
